Siripa Karuna

Image
The garbage cleaning issue at present is not only attributable to tourists places but along the main railway line of the country inclusive of intermediary railway stations. Thus tons and tons non biodegradable solid waste is collected off disposal sites incurring millions of taxpayer rupees in expense. The principal cause for the in-efficacious garbage disposal being the travelers' unawareness of disposal sites and methods forcing them to dispose of solid waste matter then and there. As a measure the project "Siripa Karuna" organized by the Rotaract Club of University of Peradeniya in order to make the public aware about methods and proper ways of grabage disposal and most importantly we want to make their mindset, not to throw grabage out of the train window and around the train while travelling.   After finishing off the awareness program, we ended the project by worshiping Sri padha as we intended  with fellow rotaractors.

Be the light that helps others see Sri Lanka is a country where all the schools do not receive equal facilities and opportunities. Because of so many unavoidable reasons, schools in rural areas do not have the access to the standard education system.   Since they do not have all the facilities, under the theme “ opening minds, enlightening future” in the project Prathibhana ’18, we organized a practical knowledge program for A/L science students who have less facilities like laboratories and teachers in Nuwara Eliya district. The selected schools were, 1.Jahahela National school 2.Harangala secondary school 3.Delta Gamunupura National school They were invited to the University of Peradeniya and will be assisted to do practicals of advanced level examination where they will be given the opportunity to work with those equipments. Since they have less facilities, we provided them library books in all the categories and sports equipments.

Maternity Care - Sathkara phase 6 project

Image
The future of the country depends on the actions of the present generation. Child birth is the most beautiful and most fascinating phenomena in the nature. We, being the Rotaract Club of University of Peradeniya, took a step to value and appreciate this nature's miracle. This project focused on giving donations for mothers and their newly born babies. And also to spend the day with them trying to forget the pain they go through, even for a day.  In Sri Lanka, there are so many maternity clinics, but only few of those clinics get the best rewards from the government. Some maternity clinics do not have very good facilities and they do not receive all the requirements which they need from the government. But every mother get “Poshana malla” from the government, but it includes only food. So we thought of giving them food and some other requirements which are needed for babies and mothers because they are in need of those things badly as they have a very low income.

Lush green canopies of trees that weave garlands upon the azure skies is indeed a sight to the sore eyes. Sunbeams that filter through the leaves and the soothing breeze that blows through the woods are nothing but a blessing. Theodore Roosevelt has once said, " To exist as a nation, to prosper as a state, to live as people, we must have trees" But, to the greatest misery of us all, the so called " civilized" human beings cut down thousands of trees, dissolving away the essence of mother earth. Unpredictable weather changes,Global warming, depletion of the ozone layer, increasing of natural disasters are inevitable as deforestation has become a virus that runs across the globe.   In the context of the Sri Lankan socio-economic and political landscape, deforestation has become one of the most alarming issues as well. The recent controversy regarding the destruction of Vilpaththu was an eye opener to the general public to be aware of the si

"The influnce of a good teacher can never be erased" This project focuses on appreciating lecturers in the whole university. For that, we thought of giving them a bookmark which includes a nice quote related to them. They do a lot for the university students but they do not receive any gratitude from us. So as university students, we want them to know that we value them and the work they have done for us.
