Serve - Phase 07

A poya day project was conducted on the 20th of February 2016 by the joint involvement  of the Rotaract Club of University of Peradeniya, Rotaract Club of College of Chemical Sciences and Rotaract Club of Kandy in collaboration with RI District. A work shop and a motivational programme was conducted to the orphans at Balika lama niwasaya, Meegammwatta, Wattegama. We organized a series of activities highlighting the importance of education. First of all there was an ice breaking activity, followed by team spirit development activities and individual performing activities to make them understand the value of education. Also there were two lectures on problem solving and wining the situations by a Doctor and by a University Lecturer. Then there was an activity to check on and to develop their general knowledge and we spent some time singing songs with them. Siripada

A pilgrimage to Adam's Peak was conducted on the 23rd of January 2016 by the Rotaract Club of University of Peradeniya. Since many of our members wanted an adventure we went to Adam's peak though the longest road. The Erathna road was the longest one with 16+ Kilo meters. We walked for more than 14 hours to reach to the peak; with the rainy weather and  there was a power cut for around 9 hours. The journey started around 4.00pm on the 23rd and it was 6.30am on the 24th when we reached  the peak. It was a great adventure after-all. Beyond Languages

A language awareness and career development programme for school students in Kandy district was organized by the Rotaract Club of University of Peradeniya on the 21st of January 2016 at the Arts Theater of the University of Peradeniya. The needed assistance for the project was provided by the relevant Embassies and language institutions. Students were made aware of the opportunities and scholarships that awaits them in the learning of English, French, German and Japanese languages. Walk for Sight

“Walk for Sight – Sight for Life” is a project which is basically focused on fund raising for acquiring the much needed Mobile Eye Care unit for the existing national program, 'Vision 2020' whose mandate is to reach the underserved population facing avoidable blindness. Mainly, this Kandy fund raising project was launched by Sight for Life in collaboration with Rotaract Club of University of Peradeniya.  In order to make this cause a success, several communities such as Rotary Club of Kandy, Rotaract Club of University of Moratuwa, Kandy Hospital, Brandix etc joint their hands together. the project was conducted on the 5th of December 2015. A Voice For The Feared

A Cyber Exploitation Awareness Workshop for Interactors  in the Kandy zone was conducted on the 6th of December 2015. This was a cluster project that was conducted by the Rotaract clubs of ANC, UOP, UOC, KDU, IIT, Nuwara Eliya and Moratuwa. Phase 1 was held in the ANC auditorium with about 30 participants on the 18th and 19th of November 2015. Phase 2 was held at ANC auditorium and Universirty of Peradeniya with about 36 participants. Phase 3 was held in ANC auditorium with about 40 participants on the 20th of December 2015. We discussed about  the issues that the youth faces  when surfing the internet, social media,etc. The workshop was conducted  by the Rotaract club of  ANC. Further the discussion revolved around gender equality in the Sri Lankan context. Hats off to the Project Chairpersons Anuradha Kulathunge and Hasini Munasinghe on a job well done . Walk of Fame 2015

"Walk of Fame 2015" was organized on the 15th of November 2015 by the joint collaboration of the Rotaract Club of University of Peradeniya, Rotary club of Kandy & Interact club of St.Sylvesters’ College, Kandy to celebrate the world interact week & to illuminate interact within district. All Rotaract clubs and Interact clubs around Kandy were invited and many clubs  such as Interact Club of St.Sylvesters College, Interact Club of Trinitty College, Interact Club of Dharmaraja College,Interact Club of Kingswood College,Interact Club of Mahamaya Girls college,Interact Club of St. Antoney,Interact Club of Kandy Girls High School,Interact Club of St. Thomas College, Matale,Interact Club of Zahira College, Gampola,Rotaract Club of Kandy, Rotaract Club of IIT attended the project. The walk started at 8.30 a.m. from near Zam gems and went through Kandy town with various events.  The ‘Flash Mob’ dance played a major role in the walk and it helped to get more atten

Happiness Hour

On the world Orphans Day 2015 (2015/11/09), the Rotaract Club of University of Peradeniya spent some time with kids at Singithi Orphanage, Mahaiyawa, Kandy. This project was a done under the concept of "75 clubs in 25 districts in 15 countries in 5 continents ". The project was presented to us and to the Rotaract Club of Columbo East,Rotaract Club of  University of Colombo Faculty of Arts, Rotaract Club of University of Moratuwa & Rotaract Club of Kandy from Sri Lanka by the Rotaract Club of Kishinchand Chellaram College, R.I.D 3140 . We are extremely happy to be a part of this project. We spent few hours with those kids playing games, discussing their day today lives and problems. It was indeed "hours of happiness". Motivation For A Better Tomorrow

A counselling program was conducted for the students of Vivekananda Tamil College, Kandy on the 30th of October 2015 under the guidance of the Rotary Club of Kandy. The project was mainly done with the intention of helping them to solve the problems they face in their day to day life. Since most of their parents are not aware of the best solutions for their kid's problems, the students might end up making wrong decisions. Thus the project was a helping hand for them to find the best solution for their matters.  Apart from this, the project was done with the intention of motivating the students for their academics, and to overcome the challenges they face. Thus we helped them as a guiding figure for their success in addition to sharing our own experiences that we encountered throughout the journey we came along. Change

The Rotaract club of University of Peradeniya successfully completed another community service project on the 23rd of October 2015. Change was aimed at the street children of the Keppetipola Vidyalaya, Kandy. We wanted to highlight the importance of education for such children in order to succeed in life. Thus, the children were brought to the university where we made them engage in different activities to broaden their horizons. Station Number 1 :  Describing  characters  who succeeded walking through economic and social problems. Ex. Pabilis Silva, The great Chef in Sri Lanka. This will inspire the kids showing that there is always a path to succession. Station Number 2 : Group activity time! “Paper Cartoon” They were asked to dress up any cartoon character they like using paper.
