Such short little lives our pets have to spend with us, and they spend most of it waiting for us to come home each day. It is amazing how much love and laughter they bring into our lives and even how much closer we become with each other because of them. This quarantine, the Rotaract Club of University of Peradeniya brought everyone at home a special pet care project. Since most of us are confined to stay at our homes due to the Covid-19 pandemic, a pet care project was organized to discuss the common issues related to pets. It made the society aware of proper pet caring and also gave an idea about public health issues that can occur due to pets in our day-to-day life. Furthermore, it provided practical advice on how to take care of pets by fulfilling their essential needs with a clear understanding. "DesignX" was an online webinar series which was conducted as three separate sessions with the main target of developing the digital designing software skills of the participants. At a time where everybody is spending most of their time roaming on Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp, why not give them a chance to learn something new or sharpen their skills?   The International Service Avenue of our club decided to organize a Christmas celebration event in a unique way to spread the message of Christmas joy while giving a stage to showcase the creative ideas of both Rotaractors and Non-Rotaractors around the world. As a result, the project 'Shalom' was initiated, and the event took place from 17th December 2020 to 13th February 2021. A competition series was organized under the theme, Christmas: The time of Sharing & Caring . The competition had several categories: essay writing, digital arts, hand-drawn arts, photography, poetry, and hand-made crafts. The project COVID Free Pera has been happening for over 6 months in the University of Peradeniya, which houses 12, 000 students. The project managed to turn the university premises which spans over 700 hectares into a COVID controlled environment. The project grew from humble beginnings to an expansive project which contributed in many ways towards Dr. Rohantha 's brainchild: the Stop The Spread Initiative . Having started as a part of Rotary's Stop The Spread Initiative in order to further the Rotary vision of a lively society under the new normal, the project soon became the model project to test the initiatives.  The main objective of the project is making the University of Peradeniya a COVID Controlled Environment and resuming the academic activities even at the time of the pandemic. Truly, great friends are hard to find, difficult to leave and impossible to forget. After being confined to stay at our homes for many months, the Executive Committee finally got the opportunity to meet each other for real and just like any other rowdy bunch of friends, we ended up going on a small fellowship trip. Considering the pandemic situation, we did not travel very far for safety reasons and kept the interactions with the public to a minimum. Our destination was Awissawella and a nice, cozy villa surrounded by mountains and a beautiful forest was chosen for the stay. Everyone had an amazing time playing cricket, badminton, and volleyball and a great a deal of time was spent in the pool on both days just chilling. Also, everyone had a load of fun playing card games and UNO and not to forget, sharing all those ghost stories. Had a bbq party in the evening and everyone stayed till it was passed mid night singing, talking about the Rotaract journey and reminiscing good old times....

Fat to fit is an award-winning project of Rota Pera that has been carried out in previous years to enhance the physical fitness of the community. This year it was conducted as a joint project between the Rotaract Club of University of Peradeniya and the Interact club of Dharmaraja College, Kandy. This year the project was conducted For the 3rd consecutive time, and due to the country's prevailing situation, it was conducted on a virtual platform. We have focused on improving the physical fitness of the general public that have got stuck at homes during the quarantine period. Therefore, unlike in the previous years, we allowed the general public to participate in the project. Furthermore, we wanted to go on an innovative path deviating from conducting webinars. The project “ පරිසර මිතුරෝ ” is the collective effort of two avenues of the club: namely, the Environmental Service Avenue and The International Service Avenue. The project was done in collaboration with the Rotaract Club of GITAM in India.   This was an open event for the students of Reggie Ranatunga Science College, Minuwangoda and it was conducted successfully as a well-planned, enthusiastic, brainstorming program for school children who got involved. The main focus of the project was to refresh the knowledge and collaborate with these students on areas such as creativity, general knowledge and knowledge on Science & nature. Not only on knowledge, but it also focused on attitude building, especially to improve the contribution of school children to minimize environmental pollution.
