Rotaract Club of University of Peradeniya

Aloha 2020 – The Hawaiian Party was successfully held on the 31st of January 2019 at the Beacon-Resolute, Rajagiriya from 6.00 p.m onwards and it was an interesting joint initiative of the Rotaract Clubs of Cluster 04, belonging to Rotaract District 3220. Since the cluster project was based on Club Service, the initial step was to ensure we have maximum involvement of our members. Meetings were held subsequently to make this a successful initiative. On conclusion, it was collectively decided to have an evening of music, food and dancing. To add value, we also included a few games. We named the project ALOHA and kept to the Hawaiian theme. This was to signify the Rotary Convention that was to take place in Hawaii. Plans were made to charge a minimum entrance fee to assure the maximum engagement of Rotaractors and to also encourage more institute-based clubs to participate. Rotaract family is with diversely talented members. RCL is the biggest event to sharpen the sportsmanship of Rotaractors while strengthening the bonds with other Rotaract clubs. RCL 2020 took place for 3 days as in 11 th , 18 th and 19 th of January. The event was hosted by Rotaract District 3220 Sri Lanka and Maldives, Rotaract Club of University of Colombo Faculty of Arts, Rotaract Club of IIT, Rotaract Club of General Sir John Kotelawala Defense University and Rotaract Club of CCS. Our Club took part in games on all three days this year and also the table tennis tournament was organized by the Rotaract Club of University of Peradeniya in collaboration with Rotaract Club KDU. Orientation programme for the freshers of Faculty of Engineering took place on 17 th January 2020. Welcome speech and the introduction to the club was done by the joint secretary of the club Rtr. Gothami Mayanthima. 12 th past president of the year 2017/18 Rtr PP Thiraj Dhanushan and 3 rd past president of the year 2008/09 Rtr PP Bhagya Egodage also addressed the gathering. Celebrating the beautiful Sri Lankan culture, Rotaract Club of University of Peradeniya organized “Kurinchi Pongal” to mark Thaipongal day, the day of gratitude on 15 th January 2020. The event itself was coloured by Rotaractors as well as Rotarians from Kandy Rotary Club, despite their religion, bringing out the beauty of harmony. After the Pooja at the Hindu Kovil, the event took place at the University ground with lots of fun activities and games adding wonderful memories for the Rotaract diary. Rotaract is all about bonding. Hanthana Handawa is one of the most awaited events of Rotaract Club of University of Peradeniya. It was held on 28 th December 2019 at the Animal Science mini theatre of Faculty of Agriculture.  From the oldest members to the newest member of the Rotaract family of University of Peradeniya gets a chance to get to refresh the bonds and make new friends. Howl-O-Ween '19 (a Halloween party) concluded on 2nd of November at the Earl's Regent Hotel Kandy with great success. The event was mainly focused on fundraising for the club and was filled with several entertainment items to brighten up the night.   The invitees, friends of Rotaract and Interact, past members of the club graced the occasion. It was filled with tasty food, fun events and spooky face paintings. The 14th Installation Ceremony was held on 27 th October 2019 with great success. At the Appadurai Auditorium, Faculty of Agriculture. Commencement of the ceremony was marked by lighting the traditional oil lamp by the dignitaries and invitees. Honourable Chief Guest- Professor Upul B. Dissanayake, the Vice-Chancellor of University of Peradeniya, Guest of Honour-Rtn PHF K. Wigneswaran, President of the Rotary Club of Kandy, Rtn PHF Avanthi Karunaratne- Youth Service Chair, Rtn. IPP Ranjith Gunathilake- Zonal Coordinator, Rtn PHF PP John Baskaran , Senior Treasurer of the club Dr B.M.K. Pemasiri, Rotarians, Rotaractors and interactors and all the distinguished guests graced the occasion.
