“Waiwarna” is a musical and a motivational program, organized by the Rotaract Club of
University of Peradeniya.
Owing to the ongoing pandemic, “Waiwarna” was conducted via Zoom where it attracted over 300 participants -students of our university as well as outsiders, of all
age groups who were interested in music as well as other aesthetic activities.
This webinar
assisted in the enhancement of knowledge of our participants of various, successful careers
that they could accomplish out of their concealed aesthetic talents by providing a helpful
insight into the Sri Lankan entertainment industry.
The project was conducted under 3 phases.
Phase 1
Phase 2
Phase 3
There are several students in the university who have various aesthetic talents but are afraid to move forward and accomplish a career of their own because of the stereotypical thought that only degrees and diplomas could make us shine and successful. Therefore, one of the main objectives of this musical and motivational program was to break this stigmatization among the younger generation and to motivate them by cultivating in them the belief of creating successful careers out of concealed aesthetic talents by showing living examples – some of our own famous Sri Lankan musicians-who have established themselves only via showcasing their aesthetic talents.
This global pandemic has everyone ridden with anxiety and morbidity with being socially
distanced as well as mentally distanced from loved ones and by no means are our students an
exception. Therefore, another important objective of this musical night was to ensure that the
public could lift their minds off of the constantly lingering thoughts of quarantine, lockdown,
financial burden for at least a few hours and excite themselves by seeing and listening to some
of their favorite artists sing and interact with them virtually.
