Reach For Water '19

The chronic kidney disease of unknown etiology (CKD) has emerged as a significant contributor to the burden of chronic kidney disease (CKD) in rural Sri Lanka. To reduce the risk of developing kidney disease, it is necessary to follow instructions on over the counter of medications, consumption of purified water and manage medical conditions which are very hard to do for the underprivileged and poverty stricken people in those areas. The options available to overcome this situation is to establish small treatment plants to purify groundwater, operation and maintenance or depending  on the distance water bowsers and transport water.

As Rotaractors our intention is to reduce the risk of spreading kidney disease and help the people in those areas to have  better health conditions. For that we have proposed and launched the project "Reach For Water". So the current beneficiaries of Reach For Water are the habitats of North Centrel province of Sri Lanka, the people who are mostly underprivileged, impoverished and who do not have purified water facilities.

Phases of the project

charity Run

It gives us great pleasure to say that the biggest charity run witnessed by the prestigious city of Kandy, was organized by the Rotaract Club of University of Peradeniya. In order to cover the budget to donate water filters, a charity run was organized commencing from Kandy City Center to Gatambe ground (5 Km). At the end of the charity run, an after event was held the winners were announced. Certificates were given to all the participants. To cover up the budget, t shirts were printed and some famous artists were invited to gather the expected crowd.

Fly High Event

As a new phase for the project, an event to set a world record was planned. A kidney shaped human image was created. This was to increase the funds and sponsorships for the project and to increase the participants for the event.
