Green Legacy - 2019

The project Green Legacy which is organized for the 5th consecutive time altered its cause of planting plants in the Hanthana mountain range. Last year it was held in an area of Hanthana Mountain, Dunumadalawa and this year we are planning to conduct the project at the sideways of the Southern Highway(Kahathuduwa to Kottawa).

Green Legacy is a joint project organized by Rotaract Club of university of Peradeniya in collaboration with Rotaract clubs of University of Kelaniya and University of Moratuwa. This year the project was mainly focused on the sustainability of the project. Hence the members make sure that the plants will be looked after until they can grow themselves. The plants which were planted will be well looked after by the staff of the Road Development Authority. This maintenance ensures the complete sustainable existence of the impact of this project, as the plants will be well looked after till they are better established.

Without planting in an unsafe area which cannot be checked often, we thought of planting trees this time in the sideways of highway since all the plants will be observed and treated well by the government authorities continuously. So that, the complete sustainability is ensured.

Green Legacy’ 19 is launched with the purpose of ;

  •  Giving our contribution to the community to reduce common environmental problems such as global warming… etc.
  • Bringing out noticeable improvements in urban greenery and also as a shout out to the protest against deforestation.
  •  Enhancing the awareness of people about the value of protecting the nature and trees and encourage them to plant more trees in order to reduce the desertification by putting it into action to set an example for the younger generation.
