Sathkara Phase 3
“The best classroom
in the world is at the feet of an elderly person”
-Roony-
We Sri Lankan are a proud nation who value and respect the
elders. However, due to various reasons, population of elders’ homes are
gradually increasing. Therefore, majority of them suffer not only from physical
illnesses but also from mental illnesses like depression and anxiety disorders.
As human beings, we should not forget that, one day we will be where they are.
As Pera rotaractors, on 8th July, 2017 we decided
to visit Udunuwara- Kalugamuwa Elders’ Home to spread love and kindness to beloved
senior citizens. The 3rd Phase of Sathkara was a kick start to our
new Rotaract year. The event was chaired by Rtr. Kabilan Saynthan and Rtr.
Kamalaja Athauda.
First, we cleaned the environment and rearranged the furniture
in order to create a better and more pleasing surrounding at the elders’ home. Meanwhile,
we had chitchats with the loving grandmothers and grandfathers. It was truly amazing
how many incredible memories they are willing to share with us.
We had a small tea party specially made for them which was
highly admired by all. To bring smiles to their charming faces, the tea party
continued with some entertainment items. As a token of love, we gave them
handmade cards and they were moved by our gesture. Without a doubt, Sathkara Phase
3 is a memorable project in our Rotaract diaries.
