Special Needs Awareness and Advocacy Walk 2013
The Special Needs walk organized by the Department of Philosophy and Psychology, University of Peradeniya, FRIDSRO and supported by the Rotaract Club of University of Peradeniya was successfully held on the 7th of December, 2013. Cricketing legend Aravinda De Silva initiated the walk from the E.L. Senanayake Children's Library, Kandy which covered Dalanda Veediya, Haras Veediya, D.S.Senanayake Veediya returning to E.L. Senanayake Children's Library. The floor was then opened for the special children top display their talents. The event ended on a glad note having realized the need for awareness for such wonderful individuals, who only require very little from society, which are acceptance and kindness.
The walk was attended by the staff and students of Blue Rose(special needs school), the Girl Guides of Kandy, undergraduates from the university as well as members from the Rotaract Clubs of Kandy, Nuwara Eliya and Matale apart from the members of the organizing front. We wish to thank everyone who helped to make this event a success and for being part of a change that is much needed!
