Prathibhana
“Opening minds, enlightening their future”
Prathibhana is a signature community service project of
Rotaract Club of University of Peradeniya. For the second consecutive year this
project was held at Wattappola Primary School on 12th and 13th
of August 2017 and it was chaired by Rtr. Nimesh Walpola.
The project catered to the grade 5 students of Wattappola
Primary School, Sadhikawatta Primary School, Wenbliwaththa Primary School,
Gonadhiga Sinhala Tamil School and Sri Rewatha Maha Vidyalaya. This time the project
consisted of four main phases and it aimed to align itself under the SDGs
namely quality education and good health and wellbeing.
A mass seminar for the scholarship students of the five
schools were conducted on the first day and a dental camp for the students as
well as for the parents on the second day. For one of the schools, 5S system
was introduced. All the students were excited when they were gifted a school
bag which also included essential stationary items for their education. Sports
items and library books were also donated to the schools. A practice session
was conducted for the sports.
As expected by this project, it is believed that we were
able to take another step forward in helping students in rural areas to cross
the hurdles in education, and to strengthen them with knowledge and resources
in order to ensure the sustainability of an educated nation.
